The Declaration of Independence is by far the best letter written of all time. As a political science major, I hold the Declaration of Independence very close to my heart because it was the beginning of our great nation. Everyone should read the Declaration of Independence so they understand how amazing our country really is.
The Declaration of Independence is so short, but yet so inspiring. The founding fathers were very brave to go against the strongest army in the world at the time to stand up against injustice so we can have the country we have today. They knew that it would not be easy and that what they were doing was unheard of at the time, but yet they had the bravery to do it anyway.
The United States is the greatest country. Politicians will come and go but the principles the United States was founded on surpass that of all other nations.
The Declaration of Independence starts out by saying in the second paragraph “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men.”
This quote is so significant because it shows that our rights are powerful because they are given to us by God, not by men. Therefore whatever is given to us by God can not be taken away. The letter adds that it is the duty of the government to uphold these rights. This is so significant because that is the true purpose of government- to uphold our rights! There are so many governments this day in age that are human rights violators but that goes against the nature of why the government was even established!
The United States is only 241 years old, yet we are a model to other nations. There are some nations that have existed for thousands of years that still cannot get it together. The United States, however, went through a revolutionary war and came out not only triumphant but a model nation to others.
When people criticize the United States and say that it is not great, we should remind them of the amazing principles our country was founded upon. If the United States was not great, do you think people would be trying to cross our borders just to get in?
I absolutely love the United States and no matter how much people like to criticize certain practices of the president, The U.S.A will forever be a model nation to those around us. The Declaration of Independence was the starting point of it all. It is so important to study U.S. history to understand the principles the U.S.A. was founded upon. So I encourage you to start reading the founding documents and admire this amazing country we live in. God bless the U.S.A!
